As protests continue in universities against the Citizenship Amendment Act, Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Sunday said that the central government will not allow educational institutions to become an arena of politics at any cost. He said that everyone is free to engage in political activities but college and university should be kept away from it as many students come from far flung places to study. He said, “Narendra Modi government will not tolerate it at any cost.” Students of several other universities in the country, including Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia, University of Delhi, Yadavpur University and Presidency University, have been consistently protesting against the amended citizenship law (CAA). Pokhriyal alleged that the opposition parties were deliberately spreading misinformation about the CAA.
The Union Minister said, “At that time she was very strongly in demand of the Citizenship Amendment Act.”
He said, “The Congress responsible for dividing the country on religious grounds is spreading misinformation about the CAA.” Criticizing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for opposing the citizenship law, the union minister said the Trinamool supremo had demonstrated against illegal migrants in 2005, when she was an MP.The Union Minister said, “At that time she was very strongly in demand of the Citizenship Amendment Act.” Pokhriyal said that it will add values to the country, regarding the new education policy.He said, “The new education policy coming after a gap of 33 years will be India centric and it will add values to the country.”
