On Thursday, on the occasion of the 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Article 370, 35A was the gateway to terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and Prime Minister Narendra Modi canceled it and closed the road. Shah also said that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s unfulfilled dream of integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country was fulfilled on August 5 when Articles 370 and 35A were repealed.
The decision comes into effect 86 days after the Parliament abolishes the special status granted under Article 370.
Union Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju, Hardeep Singh Puri and Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal also attended the event. Shah said, ‘The people with full majority in 2019 handed over the reins of power to Narendra Modi. By removing Articles 370 and 35A, PM Modi worked to reunite the country. He said, “Articles 370 and 35A remained the gateway to the entry of terrorism in the country, which was removed under the leadership of PM Modi”. The Home Minister said, ” Unity race ‘was started remembering Sardar Patel, after independence Sardar Patel made the country unbroken.’ The whole nation is paying tribute to Sardar Patel on his birth anniversary. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to former Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Patel on Twitter. PM Modi, while remembering former Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary, wrote, “I bow to the iron man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the architect of the unity of the country, on his birth anniversary.”
It is known that the status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir ended on Wednesday midnight and with this two new union territories Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh came into existence. The decision comes into effect 86 days after the Parliament abolishes the special status granted under Article 370. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday. In a late night notification, the Jammu and Kashmir division of the ministry announced several steps, including the implementation of central laws in the state.
This will be the first time a state has been converted into two union territories. With this, the number of states in the country increased to 28 and the number of union territories increased to nine. With this, the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir and the Ranbir Penal Code will cease to exist from Thursday when the nation celebrates ‘National Unity Day’ to commemorate the birth anniversary of the first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Patel is credited with merging over 560 states into the Union of India. The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019 states that the day of formation of two union territories is 31 October and will come into existence on midnight (Wednesday-Thursday). The abolition of the special status and division of the state was announced in the Rajya Sabha on 5 August.
