Couple specialist Ashwini Ponnappa, who is trying to get a ticket to the Tokyo Olympic Badminton 2020, has said that she is working on gaining fitness and strength for the upcoming season. The time for Olympic qualification for Badminton has started from 29 April 2019 which will run till 26 April 2020 while the ranking list will be published on 30 April to decide the quota. Ashwini, who paired with N Sikki Reddy in the women’s doubles, said, “My focus is on strengthening the body and keeping fit and doing more work on basic exercises that will strengthen.” This year has not been good for the couple.

She has participated in 20 tournaments, in which she was eliminated in 13 first and three in second round. Ashwini, who has teamed up with Jwala Gutta at the London Olympics 2012 and Rio Olympics 2016, said that I have a good pairing with Sikki Reddy. We have played close matches with the top 10 players although we got tough matches in the first round in which we lost most of the matches. The player, who won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2010, said that it takes some time for the two players to adjust in the doubles. She said that it takes time to get results.
