In the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament, the Shiv Sena on Wednesday did not participate in voting on the Citizenship Amendment Bill and walked out. Shiv Sena MPs in the Lok Sabha voted in support of the bill. The Congress high command is not happy with this stand of its ally Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. Sources say the senior Congress leader has spoken to Uddhav Thackeray and bluntly stated that the party’s stand on issues such as the citizenship bill could harm the alliance in future. Explain that on the Shiv Sena stand in Lok Sabha, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi expressed his displeasure in gestures. The top leadership of the Congress had expressed their displeasure with the Shiv Sena for voting in the Lok Sabha in support of the bill.

The Congress had expressed disappointment with the Shiv Sena that the alliance partners would definitely discuss with each other before taking a decision where they would not agree among themselves. Sources say that the Congress had expressed disappointment with CM Uddhav Thackeray of Maharashtra for directly supporting the bill in Lok Sabha. It was only after this response from the Congress that Uddhav said on Tuesday that party MPs voted in support due to lack of clarity. After this, it was expected that Shiv Sena would change its stand. However, the decision of a walkout from the Rajya Sabha has also not dampened the resentment of the Congress. The Congress and other opposition parties are disappointed with Shiv Sena not voting in the Rajya Sabha against the bill. In the Lok Sabha itself, the Congress party is angry due to Shiv Sena voting in support of the bill. After passing the bill from Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, ‘Citizenship Amendment Bill is going to hurt Indian Constitution. Those who support it are doing the work of hurting the foundation of our country.
