The government has completely banned bonuses for railway employees and e-cigarettes on the other hand, in the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Both these decisions were approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The central government announced before the festivals that a bonus equal to 78 days’ salary would be given for railway employees. More than 11 lakh employees will get the benefit. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that for the first time in a row, bonuses are being given to railway employees for the sixth consecutive year. The government exchequer will have a burden of 2024 crores in giving bonus.

Giving information about the decisions of the cabinet, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the government has banned e-cigarettes. He said that the use, production, sale, storage of e-cigarettes has been completely banned. He said that the trend was increasing among school children too. Information Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar was asked why the government is not banning cigarettes more harmful than e-cigarettes, then he said that the addiction is new now, so the government has decided to stop it at the beginning. The government has made it clear that e-hookah is also banned. On first offense, the accused can face a sentence of 1 year or a fine of one lakh or both, but if committed again and again, a second fine can lead to a fine of up to 5 lakh or imprisonment up to 3 years or both.

Both these decisions were approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the decision has been taken at the right time to prevent the trend of e-cigarettes from increasing. He said that what is happening in the world has a background, but research institutes of India have done research on it. It was recommended by AIIMS, Tata and other leading institutions and doctors. It was only after the Technical Committee did a thorough investigation that it came to the Cabinet.

E-cigarettes are battery-powered devices that contain liquid. It is a solution of nicotine and other harmful chemicals. When you pull the puff, the heating device converts it into steam by heating it. This is called weeping along the lines of smoking. Nowadays it is seen that people have started smoking e-cigarettes instead of common cigarettes. They believe that this electronic cigarette is better than smoke cigarettes because it causes less health. But the reality is different, e-cigarettes also affect health. The World Health Organization also said that electronic cigarettes cause the same harm as traditional cigarettes.
