In the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament today, the Congress created a ruckus in the House on the issue of citizenship amendment bill as soon as the proceedings started. Due to this, the house was adjourned till 12 noon. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Raut has said that there is doubt in the mind of Shiv Sena regarding many issues of the bill. The situation and figures in the Lok Sabha were different. Government should remove doubts on the bill Shiv Sena is yet to decide what to do on the bill in Rajya Sabha. Tamil refugees are also Hindu. Meanwhile the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 (CAB) will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha at 12 noon on Wednesday (December 11) after it is passed by the Lok Sabha. For the debate of this bill, 6 hours have been kept by the Chairman. On the other hand, opposition has intensified opposition to this bill. The Congress has asked all its district units to hold demonstrations across the country, while the government is committed to passing this bill in the Rajya Sabha.
BJP may get support in the Rajya Sabha by 13 MPs including AIADMK (11), ZDU (6), SAD (3), Independents and others.
Complete homework has been done for the Rajya Sabha on behalf of the government and efforts are being made to mobilize numbers from all the parties. There are 240 MPs in Rajya Sabha at this time, because 5 seats are lying vacant in Rajya Sabha. Accordingly, this bill can be passed in Rajya Sabha only after the support of 121 MPs. The BJP currently has 83 MPs in the Rajya Sabha, which means the BJP will need 38 other MPs. But the concern for the BJP does not seem to be because some other parties along with BJP’s allies are appearing with the government on the citizenship amendment bill. BJP may get support in the Rajya Sabha by 13 MPs including AIADMK (11), ZDU (6), SAD (3), Independents and others. In this way, 116 MPs are seen in support of the bill. Apart from these parties the Citizenship Amendment Bill along with the BJD (7), YSRCP (2), TDP (2) MPs with the government can support the bill. With 127 MPs in total, the government can succeed in passing this bill. The Shiv Sena supported the bill in the Lok Sabha, but suspense remains on whether 3 Shiv Sena MPs in the Rajya Sabha will support the bill or not.
