The new head coach of Team India Ravi Shastri has said that in view of the upcoming T20 World Cup, his focus will be more on the young players. Coach Shastri said that what should be the team composition in the coming days is also being decided. After returning from the West Indies tour, Shastri said, “The road should be prepared given that you have a little over a year for the T20 World Cup and a little over a year and a half for the World Test championships.”
The head coach also said that the World Test Championship is also an important tournament.
He said, “During this period of change, it is important to focus on the youth so that they mix with the experienced players and we get a very strong team.” The coach has also emphasized consistency in performance and strengthening of bench strength. He said, “Our aim is to maintain consistency in the performance. The team is going through a phase of change and in such a situation youngsters will have to be monitored and at the same time attention should be paid to preparing bench strength in batting and bowling in all the three formats of the game. The head coach also said that the World Test Championship is also an important tournament. He said, ‘We will play the World Test Championship against South Africa on our soil. Therefore, there is a need for better performance. Shastri said, “The Indian team is the number one team in the world and we are at the top for the last three years. Therefore, prestige is also at stake. So we want to continue this continuity in performance and decide that when it comes time to decide who will play in the finals, we are in a good position in the points table.
