As part of the modernization process, the Indian Army has received the first shipment of 10,000 American Sig Sauer Rifles. It is noteworthy that India has ordered 72,400 Sig Sauer rifles as part of the fast track process to equip its frontline troops with state-of-the-art realms. The Indian Army has also started supplying ammunition for its sniper rifles. Over 21 lakh rounds have been ordered. In the first batch, 10 thousand Sig Sauer 716 assault rifles have been delivered to India. These rifles have been sent to the Northern Command. This command is overseeing counter terrestrial operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

Not only this, this command also works on preventing infiltration from trained terrorists in Pakistan and from Pakistan occupied Kashmir. These state-of-the-art rifles will be used in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir. India has signed rifles worth Rs 700 crore with the US. Under this, the Indian Army is to get 72,400 new assault rifles from the US. They are to be supplied within a year under fast track procurement. These 72,400 rifles purchased from the US will be divided into three parts. Of these, 66 thousand rifles are to be received by the Indian Army, while 2000 rifles are to be received by the Navy and 4000 by the Indian Air Force. Sig Sauer rifles will replace the INSAS rifles made in India. Along with this, more than seven lakh AK-203 assault rifles will also be made available to the Indian Army. These are being jointly produced by India and Russia.
