Broadband Internet service in Jammu and Kashmir government hospitals and SMS service on all mobile phones have been restored after about five months. For the people of Kashmir, this government’s move is like a gift on the new year. SMS services have started from midnight on Tuesday. Although most services other than mobile internet were started in Jammu within a week of the ban on 5 August, landline and postpaid service in Kashmir was restored in phases. Spokesperson of Jammu and Kashmir administration Rohit Kansal said, ‘It was decided to restore internet service and complete SMS service on all mobile phones from December 31 midnight in all government hospitals.This step has been taken with the arrival of New Year. Internet and prepaid mobile service on mobile is yet to be restored in Kashmir.
SMS services have started from midnight on Tuesday.
Internet will start in a phased manner
Rohit Kansal further said that it has not been decided yet when Internet services will be started.This issue is in the cognizance of the government. With the situation improving, internet service will also be started soon. He also said that internet service will be started in all government hospitals and schools in a phased manner.
Major changes took place on 5 August
Explain that mobile services were banned in Kashmir on August 5, when the central government abolished the special status of the state and divided it into two union territories. Communication services were restored in Jammu just days after the ban and mobile internet services were also started in mid-August. Mobile Internet services were discontinued on 18 August.
