The Supreme Court has rejected the so-called arbitration efforts in the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi dispute. The constitution bench of five judges will now give a detailed verdict in the matter. One thing is certain that this decision of the Constitution Bench will not be a division of land like the judgment of the Allahabad High Court. The High Court had ordered the disputed site to be divided into RamlalaVirajaman, NirmohiAkhara and Sunni Board. Several applications were made in the court before the proceedings began at 10.30 am on the last day of the hearing. But the bench said that now no application will be entertained and started hearing. According to the Supreme Court sources, one of the applications was also from the arbitration panel. The court should give them a chance. But Chief Justice Justice Ranjan Gogoi said, “Now nothing will happen, we will hear till five o’clock and after that the case is over.” However, the court ended the hearing an hour before that and reserved the verdict.
The court should give them a chance.
Sources said that this application for arbitration was also not in proper format, it did not have the signature of Justice MI Kalifulla, Chairman of the Arbitration Committee and Member ShriShri Ravi Shankar. The application was made by SriramPanchu, a member of the arbitration committee and senior advocate. Panchu had requested the court three days ago that UP Sunni Board Chairman ZufarFarooqui be given protection. Interestingly, on Wednesday, Farooqui made every effort to enter the court, but he was not allowed to enter the premises even if he went to court. After the hearing was over, he settled himself with his security personnel.
Significantly, one such attempt of mediation was held last month while the hearing was going on. At that time the court had said that we have no objection, arbitration may continue but we will continue to hear. At that time also only one or two parties were ready for this. The main parties Ramlala Virajman and Nirmohi Arena were against arbitration.
