In the new Parliament House to be built before the 75th anniversary of independence, all the members of both the houses are planned to be given separate rooms on the lines of separate chambers received by the ministers. The aim is to provide suitable space for MPs to complete legislative functions.
In the existing system of Parliament House, only ministers get a separate room. Members of Parliament now have to either take refuge in the Chamber of Ministers, or go to the library or other places to study or meet someone. The same Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, also confirmed the plan for redevelopment of Parliament House at an event organized by industrial organization FICCI last Friday. Puri said that the work of revamping the Parliament House and the Joint Central Secretariat would be completed by 2024.
