Priyam to captain Indian team in ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup

Young batsman Priyam Garg will be the captain of the Indian team in next month’s ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa. The All India Junior Selection Committee has met here and selected a 15-member team for this tournament to be held from January 17 to February 9. Garg has a double century in first-class cricket and a century in List A. Garg was also a part of the India C team which was runner-up in the Deodhar Trophy last month. He played an innings of 74 against India B in the final. The 13th tournament of the Under-19 World Cup will be played among 16 teams which are divided into four groups. India have been placed in Group A with Japan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka qualifying for the first time.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super League stage. The Indian Under-19 team for the World Cup is: Priyam Garg (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Verma, Divyansh Saxena, Dhruv Chand Jurel (vice-captain and wicketkeeper), Shashwat Rawat, Divyansh Joshi, Shubhang Hegde, Ravi Bishnoi , Akash Singh, Karthik Tyagi, Atharva Ankolekar, Kumar Kushagra (wicketkeeper), Sushant Mishra and Vidyadhar Patil. Indian U-19 squad for South Africa tour is as follows: Priyam Garg (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Verma, Divyansh Saxena, Dhruv Chand Jurel (vice-captain and wicketkeeper), Shashwat Rawat, Divyansh Joshi, Shubhang Hegde, Ravi Bishnoi, Akash Singh, Karthik Tyagi, Atharva Ankolekar, Kumar Kushagra (wicketkeeper), Sushant Mishra, CTL Raksha and Vidyadhar Patil.
